p. 93. 18 columns. Arithmetic check: every column of the body sums exactly to the printed "Total" row (elections 4,919; A.F. of L. wins 1,620; C.I.O. wins 1,898; unaffiliated wins 560; eligible voters 1,087,177; valid votes 893,758; A.F. of L. votes 215,453; C.I.O. votes 350,295; unaffiliated votes 140,821; against unions 187,189), and every printed percentage recomputes to the printed figure, so the column assignment is well corroborated. Header spans: the rule under "Valid votes cast for—" runs to the right edge of the table and "Against unions" is set in the band below it (vertically aligned with "Total", not with the full-height stub heading), so "Against unions" is transcribed as a sub-heading of "Valid votes cast for—" spanning heading levels 2-3. The "Valid votes cast for—" wording is itself typeset slightly left of the centre of that span, which is the only reason this reading is not completely unambiguous. Note also that Total (893,758) equals the sum of the three union columns plus "Against unions", consistent with this grouping. Apparent misprint in the heading: in the "Valid votes cast for—" block the first sub-group is printed "A. of F. L. affiliates", whereas the corresponding heading in the "Elections and cross-checks won by—" block is printed "A. F. of L. affiliates". Transcribed as printed. Stray typesetting marks normalised to the obvious value: "80. 9." (Unaffiliated unions row, Elections won by Unaffiliated unions / Percent) read as 80.9; "52. 4." (C. I. O. affiliates—Unaffiliated unions row, Valid votes C. I. O. / Percent) read as 52.4; "43. 5." (same row, Valid votes Unaffiliated unions / Percent) read as 43.5. Each has a trailing period that is a leader-dot artefact, and each matches the recomputed ratio. Likewise "322. 163" (C. I. O. affiliates row, Eligible voters / Number) is read as 322,163, which the column sum confirms. Row labels that wrap over two printed lines (rows 5-9) have been joined, repairing the end-of-line break in "affili-ates" (row 5). Dash forms in the compound labels are reproduced as they appear: a short hyphen between "affiliates" and "C. I. O." in row 5 and in "A. F. of L.-C. I. O." in row 9, a longer dash before "Unaffiliated" in rows 6-9; the exact dash length at this scan resolution is not certain. Empty cells in rows 2-9 are printed as dash rules ("------") and are transcribed as "".
