Distribution of cases received during the fiscal year 1945, by industry

The crop shows only the first part of this table; it continues on the following page (the body ends mid-list after "Products of petroleum and coal", and the line "See footnote at end of table." is printed below the rule). The footnote keyed to the stub heading marker (Industrial group ^1) is therefore not on this image, so `footnotes` is empty. Percentages under 1 are printed without a leading zero (e.g. ".2" for the Tobacco manufactures row in all three Percent-of-total columns); transcribed as printed. Typesetting leaves a space after the thousands comma and after decimal points (e.g. "9, 737", "8. 1"); these are written closed up per instructions. Column assignment is unambiguous: six value columns under three two-column spanner headings, separated by printed vertical rules. Minor legibility points: the "Unfair labor practice cases" spanner heading is slightly broken at the end ("cases" partly faded) but is legible; the Food and kindred products / Representation / Number value reads "627" and its Percent reads "8.6" (the digit 6 is somewhat blotted but consistent with the 8.6 printed form).

p. 90. This crop continues Table 5 from the preceding page; the body opens with the section line "Manufacturing—Continued" and there is no grand-total row on this page. Column headings: the scan renders "Percent" with a broken/filled "e" in the "Unfair labor practice cases" and "Representation cases" panels (appearing like "Percnt"); all three are the same printed heading "Percent of total" and are transcribed uniformly. Row-label artifacts, transcribed as the intended printed wording: the row "Transportation, communication, and other public utilities" carries a stray backslash-like speck between "Transportation," and "communication" in the scan, and the period after "communication" in the first line is a comma degraded by the scan. The "Machinery (except electrical)" row has an ink speck immediately left of its All-cases figure (reads like "·846"); the value is 846. Doubtful cells (all read with moderate-to-good confidence, listed for checking): Representation cases / Number for "Transportation, communication, and other public utilities" is faint and smudged — read as 679. "Nonmetallic mining and quarrying" Representation cases / Percent of total is read as 0.6 (the final digit is partly filled and could be mistaken for 0.5). "Highway freight transportation" Unfair labor practice cases / Percent of total is read as 1.8 (printed with a degraded 8 that resembles an S). There is also a stray dot in the gutter between the stub and the Unfair labor practice Number column on the "Highway freight transportation" line; it is not a value. Indentation levels are not preserved in the stub text: "Aircraft and parts", "Automotive", "Ship and boat building and repairing" and "Other" are sub-items of "Transportation equipment"; the metal/coal/crude-petroleum/nonmetallic rows are sub-items of "Mining"; and the highway/water/warehousing/other-transportation/communication/heat-light rows are sub-items of "Transportation, communication, and other public utilities". No values were computed or adjusted.
