Reader’s notes

p. 74. Eleven printed columns. The top heading level has four spanners: the stub "Basis on which case closed" and "Total cases" are tall single headings spanning both levels (repeated here), "Number with later charges" spans the Number/Percent of total pair, "Number with later charges upheld or pending" spans the next Number/Percent of total pair, and "Number and disposition of later charges" spans the final five columns. "Board order", "Consent decree" and "Court order" are printed indented, as a breakdown of "Compliance after formal action" (which wraps onto two printed lines and is joined here); they are set off by rules above and below. The indentation is not reproduced in the labels. In the Total row the "3" printed before 936 is a raised footnote marker, transcribed as 936^3; likewise the raised 2 on "Board order". Column sums do not add down, as footnote 3 explains: 800+141=941 against a printed total of 936; 153+24=177 vs 175; 80+6=86 vs 84; 209+40=249 vs 245. The three indented sub-rows do sum to the "Compliance after formal action" line (66+50+25=141, 11+9+4=24, etc.), and every row's disposition cells (Withdrawn or dismissed + Adjusted + Board order + Pending) sum to that row's "Total cases" in the disposition block. Nothing was computed or corrected; all values are as printed. Decimal figures are printed with a space after the point (e.g. "19. 1"); the space is removed per instructions.
