- 1 Cases filed jointly by unions of different affiliation are counted only once under "total" but are duplicated in the tabulations by identification of complainant or petitioner.
- 2 "Workers" are not included for "all cases" since the definition of "workers" differs for the two types of Board cases. In unfair labor practice cases "workers involved" are the number employed in the establishment in which the case arises. For representation cases, the definition is the number of workers in the "unit" for which the petition is filed or the number in the unit found appropriate by the Board.

p. 91. Seven columns: stub, Total^1, A. F. of L. affiliate, C. I. O. affiliate, Unaffiliated union, Individual or employer, and Total number of workers involved. The stub column has no printed heading, so cell 0 of each header level is empty. "Number of cases" spans the five case-count columns; "Total number of workers involved" is a tall single heading spanning all three levels, as is "Total^1" over the last two levels. "All cases", "Unfair labor practice cases" and "Representation cases" are centered section banners printed over the data columns (not in the stub); they are given as label-only rows with cell 0 holding the label. In the "All cases" block the workers column prints a parenthesized raised 2 (a footnote reference, no value); transcribed as "(^2)" in all five rows. Row labels use an en dash between "July 1942" and "June 1943" in the original; a hyphen is used here. Two small-type cells in the Representation block are slightly blurred in the scan: "Individual or employer" for "Cases received July 1942-June 1943" read as 56, and the same column for "Cases pending June 30, 1943" read as 5. Both are confirmed by the column arithmetic (14 + 56 = 70; 65 + 5 = 70). All other row and column sums in the table are internally consistent, including the workers column, so no misprints are suspected.
