Reader’s notes

p. 28. Six columns: stub plus "All cases", then "Number"/"Workers involved" under each of "Unfair labor practice cases" and "Representation cases". Footnote markers in the Total row are printed as small raised digits to the LEFT of each figure; they are rendered here after the value behind a caret. The raised marker on 4,967 and the one on 6,010 are blurred in the scan (they resemble a small "s"/"8"), but the three footnotes printed below the table run 1, 2, 3 in order and match the three marked Total cells, so they are read as ^2 and ^3 respectively. Blank cells are dash rules in the original: Individual worker has dash rules under both Representation columns, and Employer has dash rules under both Unfair labor practice columns. Column sums vs. printed totals (nothing altered): All cases 4,787+4,922+775+417+84 = 10,985 vs. printed 10,977 (difference 8, consistent with footnote 1); ULP Number 2,178+2,198+180+417 = 4,973 vs. printed 4,967 (difference 6, footnote 2); Representation Number 2,609+2,724+595+84 = 6,012 vs. printed 6,010 (difference 2, footnote 3). The workers-involved columns also exceed their totals (ULP sum 3,298,424 vs. 3,296,852; Representation sum 1,902,321 vs. 1,901,998), likewise attributable to the jointly filed cases. The crop cuts off the last line of footnote 3; its continuation line is only partly visible at the bottom edge. It is transcribed as "in the body of table." by analogy with footnotes 1 and 2, which are fully legible and identically worded. The caption ("Table 5.—Number of cases received and workers involved in cases received during 1942, by union or party filing.") is omitted as instructed.
