Reader’s notes

p. 34. Five printed columns: stub, Cases–Number, Cases–Percent of cases closed, Cases–Percent of cases on docket, Workers involved. The stub has no heading of its own; "Cases" spans the three middle columns and "Workers involved" spans both heading levels. The stub is indented to show hierarchy (e.g. "Cases settled" and "By recognition of representatives" recur under three different parents); indentation is not preserved in the grid, so repeated labels are distinguished only by position. Cells printed as a superscript 1 inside parentheses — i.e. the footnote reference standing in place of a value, meaning "less than 0.1 percent" — are transcribed as (1). They occur in both percent columns for the "By pay-roll check" and "Cases closed otherwise" rows under "Cases closed before hearing". The second "By pay-roll check" row under "Cases closed after hearing" has dash rules in all four value columns, transcribed as empty cells. Decimal values below 1 are printed without a leading zero (.6, .4, .1) and are transcribed as printed. Printed digit-grouping spaces after commas (e.g. "4, 334") have been closed up. Spot check of the printed figures: 2,874 + 824 = 3,698 (Cases closed) and 1,984 + 324 + 545 + 21 = 2,874 are internally consistent; 747 + 4,334 = 5,081 and 3,698 + 1,383 = 5,081 also check out. Nothing appears misprinted.
