Reader’s notes

p. 148. Four columns: stub (Name of case), Hearing Opened, Hearing Closed, Decision issued. The page is a continuation ("—Continued") of a case-by-case listing; the italic centered line "Representation cases" immediately under the caption is a panel sub-caption, not a stub row, so it is not included in `rows`. The crop ends mid-alphabet at "Dickson-Jenkins Mfg. Co" and the table continues on the following page. The trailing line "See footnotes at end of table." is slightly clipped at the bottom edge of the crop but is legible; it is recorded in `footnotes` even though it carries no marker, and the numbered footnotes themselves are printed elsewhere (at the end of the table), not on this image. Small raised digits are hard to resolve at this scan resolution; several are doubtful: - "Bradley Lumber Co", Decision issued: parenthesized raised reference read as "(20)"; the second digit is indistinct and could be "(29)". - The two consecutive "Celanese Corporation of America" rows, Hearing Opened and Hearing Closed: both rows carry raised markers on "July 6, 1937". I read the first row as 13 and the second as 12, but the two digits are not cleanly separable and the pair may well be 12 then 13 (i.e. the order may be reversed), or 13/14. Treat these four cells' markers as low confidence. - "Armour Packing Co", Hearing Opened and Hearing Closed: marker read as 3; could be 5. - "Chrysler Corporation", Hearing Opened and Hearing Closed: marker read as 15 on both cells; it is possible the closed-date marker is 16. - "Chrysler Corporation" first "Do" row, Hearing Opened and Hearing Closed: ditto marker read as 17 on both; the printed form appears as "do." followed by the raised numeral, and I have transcribed the ditto word as "do" without the period. Parenthesized raised numerals standing alone in the Decision issued column — (1), (4), (6), (20) — are footnote references used in place of a date; they are transcribed as printed in the cell rather than as caret markers, since there is no value for them to attach to. Ditto conventions: stub ditto rows are printed as "Do" followed by leader dashes (no period is visible before the leaders, so transcribed "Do"); the date columns use a lowercase "do" set between leader dashes, transcribed "do"; the Decision issued column uses "Do." with a visible period. Leader dots/dashes have been dropped throughout per instruction.

p. 149. This is an alphabetical case list continuing a table from the preceding page (the crop carries the section caption \"A. Cases heard prior to the fiscal year 1939-40, in which action was taken during the fiscal year—Continued\" and the sub-caption \"Representation cases—Continued\", both omitted as instructed). The list runs mid-alphabet (D/E/F through M) and is cut off at the bottom by the end of the page; it continues on the next page.\n\nFour printed columns: the stub (\"Name of case\"), \"Hearing\" split into \"Opened\" and \"Closed\", and \"Decision issued\". Blank lines between alphabetical groups are spacing only, not rows, so they are not transcribed.\n\nDitto marks: cells printed as leader dots around a lowercase \"do\" are transcribed as \"do\"; the \"Decision issued\" column prints its ditto as a capitalised \"Do.\" and the stub prints repeated-case rows as \"Do\". These are kept as printed rather than blanked, since they are text and not mere leader dots. One exception in the \"Opened\" column: the LaPlant-Choate Co. row prints a capital \"Do\" (not lowercase \"do\"); transcribed as printed.\n\nParenthesised superscript numerals standing alone in a cell — (9), (1), (16), (4) — are footnote references used in place of a date; they are the entire cell content, so they are given as printed rather than with a caret.\n\nDoubtful cells:\n- Eagle Shoe Manufacturing Co., \"Decision issued\": the parenthesised superscript digit is faint; it reads most like 9 but 5 cannot be ruled out.\n- General Electric Co., \"Do\" row, \"Opened\" and \"Closed\": the superscript after the ditto is smudged; the \"Opened\" one could be read as 33, but both markers should be the same and 22 is the better reading, so both are given as ^22.\n- Henry Glass & Co., \"Decision issued\": the abbreviation point after \"Mar\" is not clearly resolved in the scan; transcribed as \"Mar. 18, 1940\" to match the typography used elsewhere in the column.\n- M. G.M. Corporation, stub: the spacing of the initials is irregular in the scan (\"M. G.M.\"); transcribed as it appears, though \"M. G. M.\" is likely intended (compare the \"Loew's Inc., M. G. M., et al.\" row).\n- Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.: the footnote reference (16) sits in the \"Closed\" column and \"Decision issued\" is blank; the column placement was checked against the vertical rules.\n\nThe line \"See footnotes at end of table.\" is printed below the last body row; it has no marker and is a pointer rather than a numbered footnote, but it is reported in `footnotes` as the only text printed under the table. The actual footnote texts (1, 4, 7, 9, 11, 16, 19, 22) are not on this page.

p. 150. Four columns: stub (Name of case), Hearing-Opened, Hearing-Closed, Decision issued. No footnote texts are printed on this crop; the line "See footnotes at end of table." appears below the rule, so `footnotes` is empty. The caption lines "A. CASES HEARD PRIOR TO THE FISCAL YEAR 1939-40, IN WHICH ACTION WAS TAKEN DURING THE FISCAL YEAR—Continued" and the panel line "Representation cases—Continued" were omitted as caption material. Ditto cells: in the Opened/Closed columns the ditto is printed as leader dots around a lowercase "do" (e.g. "-----do------"); transcribed as "do". In the Decision issued column the ditto is printed "Do." and transcribed as such. The stub ditto is printed "Do" followed by leader dots; transcribed as "Do". Footnote-reference-only cells: five cells in the Decision issued column carry no date, only a small raised parenthesized numeral standing in place of a value — Mooremack Gulf Lines, Inc "(4)"; Morgan Packing Co "(5)"; B. Oshrin & Bros "(7)"; Premier Furnace Co "(1)"; Star & Crescent Boat Co "(2)". The parentheses are kept and no caret is used, since the marker is not attached to any text. The digits inside these small parentheses are the least certain characters on the page; "(5)" for Morgan Packing Co, "(7)" for B. Oshrin & Bros and "(2)" for Star & Crescent Boat Co are each plausibly another single digit at this resolution. Superscript markers attached to dates, all small and somewhat indistinct: N. & G. Taylor Co., The — "1937^14" in both Opened and Closed; North American Aviation, Inc — "1938^21" in both Opened and Closed (the raised pair could conceivably read 2l/71); Oppenheimer Casing Co — "1939^18" in both Opened and Closed; Standard Insulation Co — "1939^9" in both Opened and Closed. Row labels are transcribed as printed, including the apparently abbreviated "Mooremack Gulf Lines, Inc" and the comma placement in "Southwestern Stevedoring Co., et al" and "Soto Shipping Co., P. F. Ltd., et al". The body is printed in alphabetical blocks separated by blank space; those blank lines are not rows and are not transcribed. The table continues past the bottom of this crop.

p. 151. Four printed columns: stub (Name of case), Hearing Opened, Hearing Closed, Decision issued. "Hearing" spans the two middle columns; "Name of case" and "Decision issued" are tall single headings spanning both heading levels. Ditto marks: in the two Hearing columns the cells printed as leader dashes around a lowercase "do" are transcribed as "do"; in the Decision issued column the capitalised "Do." is transcribed as printed. Stub ditto lines are transcribed "Do." (the period sits against the leader dots and is not always separable). Raised parenthesised numerals that stand alone in the Decision issued column (in place of a date) are footnote references; they are transcribed as "(1)" and "(4)" since there is no value for them to attach to. Doubtful cells: (a) Swift & Co., Decision issued — the month reads "Mar 27, 1940", apparently without the period used in every other abbreviation on the page ("Mar. 8, 1938", "Mar. 9, 1939"); a faint period cannot be ruled out. (b) The block of repeated "Do." rows under Thermoid Co. is transcribed as 7 rows; the lines are tightly set and the count could be 6. (c) Tucker Oil Co. shows hearing dates in 1936 (Apr. 24, 1936 / Apr. 25, 1936), far earlier than every other row on the page — transcribed as printed, not corrected. (d) Warner Bros., Hearing Opened is printed with a stray space, "Aug . 30, 1938"; normalised to "Aug. 30, 1938". (e) Universal Film Exchange Inc., Hearing Closed — the comma in "May 27, 1938" prints like a semicolon. The crop cuts the footnote area: the single footnote line at the foot of the page is clipped through the lower half of its letters but is legible as "1 Withdrawn after hearing."; footnote 4, referenced by Tucker Oil Co., is not shown on this crop. Caption lines ("A. CASES HEARD PRIOR TO THE FISCAL YEAR 1939-40, IN WHICH ACTION WAS TAKEN DURING THE FISCAL YEAR—Continued", "Representation cases—Continued"), the running head and the page number (144) were omitted as instructed. The blank bands separating the alphabetical groups (S/T, U, V, W) are spacing only and were not transcribed as rows. The table continues onto the following page.
