Reader’s notes

p. 31. 28 columns: stub plus 27 data columns. The third heading level carries the vertical column labels; "Cases closed before formal action" sits only at the top level above its five columns, and the "Total" of "Cases closed after formal action" is a tall heading occupying levels 2-3, so both are repeated down the levels they span. "Co. liquida-tion" is joined as "Co. liquidation". Arithmetic verification: every one of the 27 data columns sums to its printed Total-row figure, and in every region row the before-formal detail sums to the before-formal Total, before-formal plus after-formal equals cases closed, the after-formal detail sums to the after-formal Total, and cases on docket minus cases closed equals cases pending. No printed figure appears to be a misprint. The one genuinely ambiguous placement was the lone "1" in the New Orleans row within the "After issuance of intermediate report or proposed findings" group: its horizontal position matches the Withdrawn column (same as the marks in the Cleveland, Fort Worth, Los Angeles rows) rather than Dismissed, and only that reading makes the column totals 10 and 11 come out as printed. It is recorded under Withdrawn. Minor print artifacts transcribed as clean values: Buffalo's "Cases closed before formal action, Total" is printed with a stray leading dot ("·63") and is transcribed as 63; Chicago's "Total cases pending" has a stray apostrophe-like speck after it ("168'") and is transcribed as 168. Cincinnati's "Otherwise closed" cell in the before-formal group holds a faint broken dash rule rather than a figure, so it is "". In the Total row the raised 2 is printed immediately before the 3 in the last "After court action, Otherwise closed" cell, so it is given as 3^2. Several nominally empty cells are printed as dash rules ("----") and are given as "".
