Reader’s notes

p. 48. Seven columns: stub plus "Number of cases", two "Percentage of—" columns (Total cases closed; Total cases on docket), "Number of workers involved", and two more "Percentage of—" columns (Total number of workers involved in cases closed; Total number of workers involved in cases on docket). The stub column carries no printed heading, so cell 0 of both heading levels is empty; "Number of cases" and "Number of workers involved" are tall single headings repeated across both levels. Three cells contain only a parenthesized raised footnote reference and no value; they are transcribed as printed: "(2)" in the "Number of workers involved" column of "By settlement before hearing", and "(1)" in both "Percentage of—" workers columns of "By dismissal by Board decision". The raised 2 is slightly blurred in the scan and could be mistaken for a 3, but the footnote text ("The workers in this case were counted in the representation case...") confirms it refers to footnote 2. Many cells hold only a dash rule (e.g. the whole "Otherwise" row, all cells of the eight unused "Cases closed after issuance of complaint" lines, and the "Percentage of total cases closed" cells of the pending/received/docket rows); these are transcribed as "". Several of the blank interior cells on the "By intermediate report finding no violation" and "By compliance with intermediate report" rows show no dash rule at all, but either way no value is printed. Arithmetic checks out as printed for all columns (128+142+123=393; 562+1,680+662=2,904; 393+4=397; 2,904+11=2,915; 634-397=237; 8,665-2,915=5,750). The one soft spot is "Cases pending June 30, 1939" in the "Total cases on docket" percentage column: 237/634 = 37.4 percent, but 37.3 is printed; transcribed as printed. Decimal percentages are printed with a space after the point ("18. 1", "6. 5"); the space is closed up here.
