Reader’s notes
p. 47. Seven columns: stub, "Number of cases", two "Percentage of—" columns (of total cases closed; of total cases on docket), "Number of workers involved", and two more "Percentage of—" columns (of total number of workers involved in cases closed; of total number of workers involved in cases on docket). "Number of cases" and "Number of workers involved" are tall single headings spanning both heading levels, so they are repeated in both rows; the stub has no printed heading. In "By dismissal by Board decision" the last two columns hold a footnote reference used in place of a value, printed as a parenthesised raised 1; transcribed as "(1)" in both cells. Rows with no entries at all (By settlement before hearing; By dismissal before/after hearing; By withdrawal before/after hearing; By intermediate report finding no violation; By compliance with intermediate report) are printed as dash rules across every column and are given as empty cells. In "By settlement after hearing" the last column is a printed zero, transcribed as "0" (the adjacent cell is ".1"); the 17 workers involved make that plausible rather than a misprint. All printed totals and percentage columns check out arithmetically, so no misprints are suspected. The scan is noisy in the heading "Total cases closed" (the word "cases" is partly broken) and in the "211" of the second row, but both readings are confirmed by the column totals (75 + 211 = 286).
