Disposition of unfair labor practice cases of A. F. of L. unions on docket during the fiscal year ending June 30, 1939

p. 45. Seven columns: stub plus six data columns. The two spanner headings "Percentage of—" each cover two columns (Total cases closed / Total cases on docket, and Total number of workers involved in cases closed / Total number of workers involved in cases on docket); "Number of cases" and "Number of workers involved" are tall headings occupying both heading levels and are repeated. The stub column has no printed heading, so its heading cells are empty. In the "By withdrawal before hearing" row, the last two columns print a parenthesised raised 1, i.e. a reference to footnote 1 ("Less than 0.05 percent"); transcribed as "(^1)" to keep the printed parentheses while marking the raised digit. It is a footnote reference standing alone, not a value. "Cases pending June 30, 1938", Number of workers involved: the scan shows a speck between the digit groups so it reads like "137; 637"; it is 137,637, confirmed by 137,637 + 164,834 = 302,471 as printed. "By withdrawal before hearing", Number of cases: a stray mark makes the entry look like ".2"; it is 2, confirmed because the nine itemised case counts sum to the printed total of 158. "By dismissal before hearing" is a printed row label with a dash rule across all six data columns, so all its value cells are empty. All printed totals reconcile with the components as transcribed: cases 882+168+497+13 = 1,560; 1,560+158 = 1,718; 875+1,895 = 2,770; 2,770-1,718 = 1,052; workers 115,645+38,144 = 153,789 and 302,471-153,789 = 148,682; and both percentage columns for the post-complaint items sum to the printed 9.1, 5.6, 24.9 and 12.6. No misprints detected. Note that the printed ".6" for "By settlement after hearing" under "Total cases on docket" is slightly below the ratio 20/2,770 (0.72), but it is consistent with the printed column total of 5.6, so it is transcribed as printed.
