  1. 1 Strike data are monthly figures released by the U. S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Division of Industrial Relations. Annual revised figures are not broken down by causes for each month.

39 of 105 figures sit in a row or column sum that works out.

Reader’s notes

p. 292. Layout: the italic year lines (1935, 1936, 1937, 1938) are label-only section rows. For 1936 and 1937 the "Total" row is printed directly beneath its year line and above that year's twelve monthly rows (the totals do belong to the year named on the line above them, verified by addition); 1935 (October-December only) and 1938 (January-June only) have no Total row printed. Suspected misprint: the 1937 Total in column (1) is printed 9,424, but the twelve 1937 monthly figures sum to 9,425; all other printed totals reconcile exactly (1936: 1,301 / 1,951 / 971; 1937 strikes 4,270 and organization 2,412). Transcribed as printed. The page heading "APPENDIX A" and the running page number were omitted per instructions. Several 8-digits in this scan are faint and could read as "S" (e.g. September 1936 organization ratio 158; January 1937 organization ratio 138; December 1937 866; February 1938 828; March 1938 896; April 1938 885; June 1938 782); each was confirmed as an 8 by checking the ratio against columns (1) and (3), so I am confident in those readings. No part of the table appears cut off by the crop.
