Complaint cases

p. 264. Four printed columns: stub "Name of case", then "Date opened" and "Date closed" under the spanner "Date hearing held", then "Date decision issued" (a tall single heading, repeated in both header levels, as is the stub heading). Caption/subtitle omitted: the centred italic line "Complaint cases" stands above the column rules and was left out as caption matter, along with a partial line of running text at the very top of the crop ("...year 1938.") and the page number 257 at the bottom. Footnote markers in the decision column: for Dickson-Jenkins Manufacturing Co. the raised 1 is printed BEFORE the date ("1 July 16, 1937"); it is transcribed as "July 16, 1937^1". Doubtful cells (scan is a coarse 1-bit halftone, so small digits are soft): - "Date decision issued" for "Grower Shipper Vegetable Association of Central California, a corporation" and for "Honolulu Stevedores, Ltd., and Castle & Cook, Ltd.": each holds only a parenthesised raised footnote reference whose digit I cannot read with certainty. Since footnote 1 is already used higher in the table and the remaining footnotes are 2 and 3, and markers in this table run in order of first appearance down the page, I read them as "(2)" and "(3)" respectively. The order could be reversed. - "Date decision issued" for "Oregon Worsted Co.": read as "July 16, 1937"; the second digit could be a 0 ("July 10, 1937"). - "Date decision issued" for "J. Freezer & Son, Inc.": read as "July 26, 1937"; the final digit could be an 8. - "Date closed" for "Southgate Nelson Corporation of Norfolk, Va." is a ditto printed between leader dots ("....do........"); transcribed as "do" (lower case, as printed), while the decision column on that row is the capitalised "Do." Row 7's stub is the printed ditto "Do." (a second Bemis Bros. Bag Co. hearing), kept as printed. No total or section rows appear in this table; nothing is computed or corrected.
