Reader’s notes

p. 44. Seven printed columns: stub, "Number of cases", two percentage columns under the first "Percentage of—" spanner, "Number of workers involved", and two percentage columns under the second "Percentage of—" spanner. The stub has no printed heading, so cell 0 of both heading levels is empty. Cells shown as "(1)" hold only a parenthesised raised 1, i.e. a reference to footnote 1 ("Less than 0.05 percent") standing in place of a value; they are transcribed as printed rather than as a number. They occur in the "By dismissal before issuance of Board decision" and "By compliance with intermediate report" rows (both workers-percentage columns) and in "Awaiting compliance with cease and desist orders" (last column). Four rows carry a label with dash rules across every value column and are therefore empty: "By withdrawal before issuance of Board decision", "By intermediate report finding no violation", "By dismissal by Board decision", "By compliance with Board decision". The dash rules in the "Total cases closed" and "workers in cases closed" percentage columns for the pending/received/docket rows are likewise transcribed as blanks. All printed figures reconcile with their totals (cases 182+237+108+7=534; 534+10=544; 544+118=662; workers 9,932+3,773+3,756+70=17,531; 17,531+381=17,912; 17,912+2,284=20,196; and every percentage column sums to its stated total), so no misprints are suspected. The workers figure 367 for "By settlement after hearing" is slightly broken in the scan but is confirmed by 10+367+3+1=381.
