Reader’s notes
p. 43. Seven columns: stub, "Number of cases", two "Percentage of—" columns (total cases closed; total cases on docket), "Number of workers involved", and two more "Percentage of—" columns (workers in cases closed; workers in cases on docket). "Number of cases" and "Number of workers involved" are tall single headings spanning both heading levels, so they are repeated in each level; the stub column carries no printed heading. The "(^1)" entries in the last two columns of the "By compliance with intermediate report" row are printed as a superscript 1 inside parentheses, i.e. a parenthesized footnote reference standing in place of a value (footnote 1: less than 0.05 percent), not a numeric 1. Rows "By dismissal before issuance of Board decision", "By withdrawal before issuance of Board decision", "By intermediate report finding no violation" and "By dismissal by Board decision" show dash rules in every data column; these are transcribed as empty cells. The same applies to the dash rules in the "Total cases closed" percentage column for the docket and pending rows. Scan artifacts, read against context and arithmetic: in the row label "Cases received July 1, 1937, to June 30, 1938" the second "30" is partly broken and prints like "3G"; a stray tick appears after "pending" in "Total cases pending June 30, 1938" and after "closed" in the "...in cases closed" heading. Neither affects the wording. All printed totals are internally consistent: 53+201=254; 72+48+49+4=173; 2+2+1+2=7; 173+7=180; 50+7+9+8=74; 180+74=254; the worker counts and all four percentage columns likewise add to their printed totals (e.g. 9,679+4,678+2,718+1,553=18,628; 18,628+181=18,809; 59.4+0.6=60.0; 70.9+29.1=100.0). No misprints detected.
