Reader’s notes

p. 38. Seven columns: stub, "Number of cases", two percentage columns under the first "Percentage of—" spanner, "Number of workers involved", and two percentage columns under the second "Percentage of—" spanner. The stub has no printed heading, so cell 0 of both heading levels is empty; "Number of cases" and "Number of workers involved" are tall single headings repeated in both levels. Footnote markers: the raised 1 is printed to the LEFT of 2,839 (row "By settlement", Number of cases) and a raised marker is printed to the left of 29 (row "By withdrawal before issuance of Board decision", Number of cases); both are transcribed after the value behind a caret per the convention. The marker on 29 is small and smudged — it reads as a 3 in shape and matches footnote 3 ("Includes 3 cases, involving 1,702 workers..."), which fits this row's 29 cases / 15,301 workers, so it is given as ^3; footnote 2 ("Less than 0.05 per cent") could not apply to a count. Cells printed as a raised 2 inside parentheses (a stand-alone reference to footnote 2 used in place of a percentage too small to print) are transcribed as "(2)": row "By intermediate report finding no violation" in all four percentage columns and cell 0's value 2 is a real count; row "By dismissal by Board decision" in "Total cases on docket" and in "Total number of workers involved in cases on docket". Possible misprint, transcribed as printed: "By settlement after hearing", column "Total number of workers involved in cases closed" reads 32.2, but 305,725/946,575 = 32.3. Likewise "By settlement", "Total cases on docket" reads 34.5 where 2,839/8,213 = 34.6, and "Awaiting decision", "Total cases on docket" reads 4.5 where 365/8,213 = 4.44. All other printed values are internally consistent (column and row totals check out exactly). Dashed leader rules in the percentage columns of the pending/received rows are blank cells and are given as "".
