Reader’s notes

p. 49. Twenty-five columns (stub + 24). I verified the transcription against the printed Total row: every one of the 24 column totals is reproduced exactly by the body rows as transcribed, and each region's row also balances (cases = withdrawn + transferred + petitions dismissed + consent election + recognition + hearings held + hearings to be held + hearings enjoined, with the "Disposition after hearing" entries summing to that region's hearings held). Two cells were hard to resolve at the available image resolution and were settled by those two independent checks: (1) Regions 2 and 3, "Transferred": I left these blank. The glyphs just right of the "Withdrawn by petitioner" entries in these two rows are ambiguous, but the printed Transferred total of 4 is exactly accounted for by region 15 (3) and region 16 (1), and regions 2 and 3 balance (5 = 1+1+3; 2 = 1+1) only if Transferred is empty. A value of 1 in either cell would break three printed figures at once. (2) Region 21, "Hearings held": I read "1" here, although the cell looks like leader dashes at this resolution. Without it the Hearings held column sums to 35 against the printed 36, and region 21's row sums to 8 against its 9 cases; region 21 also carries a "Decisions pending" of 1, which presupposes a hearing. This is the one cell where I entered a digit I could not read directly, so it should be re-checked against a higher-resolution scan. Other points: "Number of workers" for regions 3 and 5 prints a parenthesised raised footnote letter in place of a figure; I transcribed it as "(^a)". Region 14 prints leader dots across the whole line with no values. The raised markers on region 7's "Settled" (b) and region 15's "Hearings enjoined" (c) are printed to the left of the digit; per instruction they are written after it. In the Total row, "203" is circled in ink by a later hand on this copy — the printed figure itself is 203 and is transcribed as such. The vertical string "106058—36——4" in the left margin is a printer's signature mark, not table content, and is omitted.
